The Korea tour of the Burundi Umucho Youth Choir, hosted by the Burundi Sub-Branch of the National Unification Advisory Council, successfully concluded its schedule from August 26 to September 11, delivering a profound resonance and a message of peace to the South Korean public.

Notably, the journey leading up to their arrival in Korea dramatically embodied the meanings of peace and solidarity. Just before their departure, a series of widespread flight cancellations triggered by the Middle East conflict threatened to derail the tour. Refusing to give up, the choir undertook a grueling 50-hour overland bus journey starting from Burundi, passing through Tanzania, and reaching Nairobi, Kenya. Throughout this process, President Choi Young-moon of the NUAC African Council, alongside overseas Koreans in Kenya, provided full support for border crossings, local transportation, and safety assurance, enabling the choir to safely set foot on Korean soil.

Held under the theme "The Light of Africa Singing of Hope," the concert series was designed to remind modern people living in an era of war and conflict of the values of peace and mutual respect, while using music to overcome cultural conflicts arising from the growing population of African migrants in South Korea.

The choir kicked off its official domestic activities with a performance at Seoul's Youngsan Art Hall on August 30. A large number of domestic migrants from Burundi and various other African regions attended the concert, sharing the stage of hope and culture from their homeland. Subsequently, at the September 6 concert held at Daegu Suseong Artpia, a Burundian migrant living in Korea volunteered as a staff member, transcending simple audience attendance to demonstrate a model of substantive cultural cooperation and harmony between the two nations.

Furthermore, the Umucho Choir was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Incheon International Choir Festival on September 9, showcasing their unique and dynamic traditional culture and choral artistry. They received rave reviews from domestic and international choral figures and global participants, who praised them for "unreservedly conveying the unique soul, intense energy, and sincerity of African music."

Top-tier domestic musicians also participated as guest artists and collaborators for this tour, including Conductor Lee Moon-ki, Accompanist Cho Ha-eun, Tenor Cho Tae-jin, Soprano Park Ye-rin, Baritone Park Sang-hyun, Clarinetist Park Ji-in, and the string quartet 'Arbo Quartet.' Introducing Korea's beautiful lyric songs and music while staging diverse performances alongside the choir, they completed a profound emotional exchange where Korean and African artists connected deeply through music.

A member of the NUAC Burundi Sub-Branch shared their thoughts on the successful completion of the tour, stating, "From the departure to the arrival in Korea and all the performance processes, it was a touching time created as overseas Koreans, domestic musicians, and audiences became one. We hope that this choir's visit—which introduced the rich culture of Burundi and Africa, previously somewhat unfamiliar to Korean society, and delivered messages of cultural coexistence and world peace essential in a multicultural era—will serve as a small stepping stone toward peace on the Korean Peninsula and across the world."
