Final preliminaries for the individual division of the World Mask Dance Competition wrap up

On October 2, the ninth day of the 2026 Andong International MaskDance Festival, a variety of events will unfold, including performances by Tongyeong O-gwangdae and international troupes, a K-POP concert, festival parades, and the individual division preliminaries of the World Mask Dance Competition.

Starting in the morning at the Mask Dance Theater, performance troupes from around the world—beginning with Italy, the Republic of Sakha, the Republic of Tatarstan, and Malaysia—will take the stage sequentially. Spectators can experience the dances and music of diverse regions across Asia, Europe, and the Americas all in one place.

At 2:30 PM, the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Tongyeong O-gwangdae will be performed at the Mask Dance Theater. Through regionally distinctive masks, choreography, and witty dialogue satirizing aristocrats and corrupt Buddhist monks, it conveys the unique excitement and spirit inherent to Gyeongsangnam-do's o-gwangdae tradition.

At the Mask Dance Park Stage, a K-POP concert will be held, presenting a youthful and dynamic stage that contrasts with traditional mask dances. Meanwhile, at the Central Line 1942 Andong Station Main Stage, judging and awards for the "2nd Korea Distilled Spirits Grand Prize" will take place from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Starting at 4:00 PM, the festival parade will get underway. Domestic and international performance troupes along with participants will set off from the main stage, moving through the cherry blossom road and the Mask Dance Park Stage area to interact closely with visitors.

In the evening, the final preliminary round of the World Mask Dance Competition’s individual division will continue on the main stage. Participants across student, general, senior, and overseas divisions will showcase their unique personalities and talents through masks and dances in competition for a spot in the finals.

At 8:00 PM, Hahoe Byeolsin-gut Talnori will gracefully conclude the day's performances at the Mask Dance Theater.

An Andong City official stated, "On the 2nd, a diverse array of programs—including traditional mask dances, global performances, K-POP, parades, and competitions—will take place across the festival grounds," adding, "We hope visitors will experience the diverse charms of a festival where traditional mask dances, K-POP, competitions, and parades come together in one place."

Under the theme "Memories of Masks, Everyone’s Dance," the 2026 Andong International MaskDance Festival runs through October 4 across venues including Central Line 1942 Andong Station, the old downtown area, Mask Dance Park, and Hahoe Village.
