Three-day performances held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, featuring employee choruses and creative dance performances.
Crown Haitai Confectionery announced on the 13th that it successfully hosted the 21st Changshinje traditional Korean music festival at the Grand Theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul from the 10th to the 12th.
Now in its 21st year, Changshinje is an annual traditional music festival hosted by Crown Haitai Confectionery to preserve and promote Korean traditional music. This year's event centered around the grand theme of "Sujecheon," a piece of royal court music.
Sujecheon originates from the Baekje-era lyric song "Jeongeupsa" and has evolved over centuries into a staple of royal court orchestral music.
Drawing inspiration from the historical fact that Sujecheon was traditionally performed as an accompaniment to court dances, this year's festival debuted "Obangjeongjae," a newly created performance combining three traditional court dances: Ilmu (line dance), Cheoyongmu (mask dance), and Chunaengjeon (spring nightingale dance).
The performance opened with a grand chorus where 100 Crown Haitai employees sang the lyrics of Jeongeupsa, accompanied by the Sujecheon renditions of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra and the Lak-Um Korean Music Orchestra.
Following the opening, the audience was treated to the court dance "Ilmu, Jeonpyehuimun" and "Jeongga-gueum," a unique performance translating instrumental melodies into vocal human sounds.
The program continued with "Obangjeongjae," featuring 50 employees, and a vibrant samulnori percussion performance titled "Sujecheon Dongrak." The festival concluded with a traditional original ensemble performance of Sujecheon by the Yangju Pungryu Akhoe, composed of esteemed traditional music masters.
Yoon Young-dal, Chairman of Crown Haitai Confectionery, remarked, "Changshinje is a precious stage where we create and share happiness with our customers through Korean traditional music. We will continue our efforts so that more people in Korea and around the world can enjoy the timeless beauty of our traditional music."
