Bucheon Secures 1.6 Billion Won in National Funds for Greenbelt Resident Support Projects

Two projects selected, including walking trails, green spaces, and gardens, aimed at improving living conditions for residents in restricted development zones.

BUCHEON — Bucheon City announced on October 7 that two projects it submitted for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2027 Greenbelt Resident Support Program (Environmental and Cultural Sector) have been selected, securing a total of 1.6 billion won in national funding.

The greenbelt resident support program is a national funding initiative designed to improve the living conditions of residents who experience inconveniences due to restricted development zone designations. Through this initiative, the city aims to upgrade living infrastructure such as roads and streams, while creating environmental and cultural spaces like walking paths and leisure green zones to enhance convenience and provide a pleasant living environment.

Among the six projects selected under Gyeonggi Province's environmental and cultural program this year, Bucheon's selected initiatives are the "Yeokgokcheon Railway Leisure Green Space Creation Project" and the "Light and Rest-filled Ojeong Grand Park Creation Project." Each project will receive 800 million won in national funding, supplemented by 400 million won in city funding, bringing the total budget for both projects to 2 billion won.

The Yeokgokcheon Railway Leisure Green Space Creation Project utilizes idle spaces along the railway line to create walking paths, green areas, and gardens that residents can comfortably enjoy in their daily lives. The plan is to transform the railway-adjacent space into a community leisure area dedicated to walking and relaxation.

Meanwhile, the Light and Rest-filled Ojeong Grand Park Creation Project upgrades park facilities to expand spaces where residents can enjoy leisure and rest. This effort is expected to improve park accessibility and provide residents with a more comfortable resting environment.

Following these selections, the city plans to allocate related budgets in the 2027 main budget, carry out detailed designs and administrative procedures by department, and commence construction. Both projects aim for completion within 2027.

In June, Bucheon underwent a field evaluation for the 2027 program, attended by a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport evaluation committee and Gyeonggi Province officials. The evaluation inspected the suitability of the project sites and plans. The city refined its proposal by incorporating feedback from this evaluation process before being finalized as a grant recipient.

A Bucheon City official stated, "The greenbelt resident support program substantially improves the living environment for residents who face inconveniences due to area restrictions. We will do our utmost to execute the selected projects without a hitch, creating pleasant leisure spaces and environmental improvements that residents can genuinely feel."
