HAENAM – On July 4, the Haenam Dongbaek Gymnasium was filled with warmth and laughter as over 500 members of the multicultural community gathered for the '17th Haenam County Multicultural Family Festival.' The event served as a vibrant platform for communication and harmony, bringing together diverse families to celebrate their shared life in the community.

Organized by the Haenam Family Center, the festival was meticulously designed to embrace the diversity of the participants. The day began with a variety of interactive booths that allowed families to explore different cultural experiences. This was followed by a formal opening ceremony, commemorative events, and family-centered recreational programs aimed at strengthening the bonds within and between families.

Distinguished guests, including National Assembly member Park Ji-won, Haenam County Governor Myung Hyun-kwan, and Haenam County Council Chair Min Kyung-mae, attended the ceremony to offer their encouragement and support. The presence of local leaders, along with representatives from the Doosung Foundation and city council members from the Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated Metropolitan Council, underscored the significance of the event in the eyes of the regional community.

During the first part of the ceremony, the event honored exemplary marriage immigrants and model multicultural couples with awards, recognizing their contributions to the community. These accolades were followed by congratulatory remarks and a performance highlighting the theme of unity, creating a heartfelt atmosphere of pride and community spirit.

The second part of the event focused on fostering connection. After a shared lunch, families participated in various recreational activities and a prize giveaway. These programs provided a relaxed environment for families to communicate and build lasting relationships, further reinforcing the importance of multicultural inclusion in the region.

"We hope this festival serves as a catalyst for building a community where diverse cultures coexist in harmony," said a representative from the Haenam Family Center. "We remain committed to launching continuous support programs that empower multicultural families to grow together and enjoy a happy, fulfilled life."

The Haenam Family Center plays a pivotal role in the region by offering a wide array of educational, counseling, and cultural programs. These initiatives are essential for the stable integration of marriage immigrants and their families into local society, helping to foster a family-friendly environment that celebrates multiculturalism.

Across South Korea, such festivals have become vital cornerstones of local community life. By providing spaces for connection, these initiatives help overcome cultural barriers and ensure that all families, regardless of their background, can thrive. As the nation continues to grow into a more diverse society, the efforts of organizations like the Haenam Family Center remain crucial in shaping a future defined by inclusivity, mutual respect, and shared progress.
