Over 200 cultural tourism commentators from across the province participate... sharing excellent commentary techniques and strengthening professional expertise

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Woo Sang-ho) is hosting the "2026 Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Cultural Tourism Commentator Storytelling Contest" for two days, from October 12 (Monday) to October 13 (Tuesday), at the Oak Valley Resort in Wonju.

This contest was designed to share diverse commentary cases utilizing regional cultural and tourism resources, as well as to enhance the professional expertise and on-site response capabilities of cultural tourism commentators.

On the first day, October 12, the event kicked off with provincial governor commendations for public officials and cultural tourism commentators, along with an appointment ceremony for newly appointed commentators, followed by the storytelling competition. A total of 12 cultural tourism commentators participated in the contest, introducing regional history, culture, and tourism resources through their own unique commentary styles.

Following the competition, evaluation results led to the awarding of 7 outstanding participants. Afterward, celebratory performances and breakout group discussions provided time for commentators to share information and experiences with one another.

In addition, the grand prize winner of this contest will advance to represent Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province at the "2026 National Cultural Tourism Commentator Storytelling Contest," scheduled to be held from November 2 to November 3.

On the second day, October 13, an on-site field trip to the Wonju Sogeumsan Grand Valley took place. Participants explored regional tourism resources and commentary cases on-site, sharing experiences that can be practically applied to their future commentary activities.

Through this event, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province plans to spread excellent commentary techniques and storytelling cases accumulated across various regions, while continuously enhancing the capacity of cultural tourism commentators to more effectively convey the historical and cultural value of Gangwon to tourists.

Lee Dong-hee, Director-General of the Tourism Bureau, stated, "Cultural tourism commentators play a vital role in conveying the value of Gangwon's history, culture, and tourism resources to visitors," adding, "I hope this contest serves as an opportunity for commentators to share best practices and elevate their professional expertise."
