Street Dance Featured at the Sejong Hangul Festival

The ‘K-Dance, Sejong’ performance, planned directly by local Sejong dancers and put together with dancers from across the country, was held at 8:00 PM on October 10 at the Urban Festival Plaza in Sejong Central Park. Organized by the Sejong City Foundation for Tourism and Culture and spearheaded by the Sejong Street Dance Association, this performance marked the first time street dance took the main stage at the Sejong Hangul Festival. It carried special significance as local dancers directly organized the stage and showcased their skills.

The stage featured 8 teams—including Tuty, Omega, Ido, Dotok Crew, Daifu Child, Run People, and Kiduk Kiduk × Wakjajigeol—along with some 80 performers. Each team expressed various stories through dance, ranging from the birth and development of Hangul in a world without letters to the future of Hangul expanding into the world. In particular, dancers and choreographers Monika and Lip J, who appeared on Mnet's ‘Street Woman Fighter’, graced the stage by showcasing newly composed choreography commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day.

A citizen who watched the performance remarked, "Each team's skills were outstanding and full of personality, making it truly enjoyable to watch," and added, "Since it incorporated storytelling and symbolism fitting for the Hangul Festival, I thought it would be worthy of being shown at an international competition." Kim Seung-hyun, President of the Sejong Street Dance Association, stated, "It is meaningful in that dancers active in Sejong directly planned and created the stage with their own unique personalities," and expressed hope that "this performance will serve as an opportunity to raise awareness of local dancers' activities and expand Sejong's street dance culture."

Lim Jin-a, Team Leader of the Hangul Culture City Planning Team, said, "We were able to present a unique stage to citizens by interpreting the value and symbolism of Hangul culture through the genre of street dance," and added, "We will continue our efforts to ensure citizens can enjoy Hangul culture more colorfully in their daily lives through various cultural and artistic contents."
