South Korean Media Calls for Transparency in AI Training Data

Seoul, South Korea – A coalition of five prominent South Korean media organizations has called for stricter regulations on generative AI, proposing a mandatory disclosure of training data. The proposal, submitted to the National Assembly, aims to address concerns over copyright infringement and enhance public trust in AI technologies.

The media groups argue that without transparency in training data, companies could exploit copyrighted materials without proper attribution or compensation. By requiring companies to disclose the data used to train their AI models, the proposal seeks to protect the rights of content creators and ensure fair use.

"This is a crucial step in ensuring that AI development is ethical and responsible," said [Name], a representative from one of the participating organizations. "By mandating transparency, we can help to prevent the misuse of copyrighted materials and build a more trustworthy AI ecosystem."

The proposal draws parallels to similar initiatives in the United States and the European Union, where lawmakers are considering legislation to regulate AI and protect intellectual property rights. In the US, a bill has been introduced that would require companies to submit summaries of their training data to the Copyright Office. Meanwhile, the EU has enacted a comprehensive AI Act that mandates AI companies to disclose detailed information about the data used in their models.

If adopted, the South Korean proposal would make the country a leader in AI regulation and set a global precedent for transparency in AI development. The media organizations are urging lawmakers to act swiftly to address these critical issues and ensure that AI benefits society as a whole.
