A massive explosion at a military explosives plant in Tennessee has left 19 people missing, with rescue efforts at the devastating scene facing significant challenges.

A large-scale explosion occurred at the Accurate Energetic Systems military explosives company in Tennessee on the morning of the 10th local time, leaving at least 19 people missing and confirming multiple fatalities. The explosion happened around 7:45 a.m. at the facility located in the Bucksnot area near the Hickman and Humphreys County border.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the scene as the "most catastrophic" he had seen in his career, stating that the building had been completely destroyed by the blast. As of now, 19 people are unaccounted for, and while fatalities have been confirmed, the exact number has not been released. The number of people inside the building at the time of the explosion is also uncertain.

The impact of the incident was so powerful it was felt several kilometers away from the plant. Vibrations were felt in homes about 16 km away, and residents of Lobelville, a 20-minute drive away, reported their houses shaking. A huge column of black smoke rose into the sky above the plant, so large that it was picked up by a Nashville-area TV station's weather radar.

Rescue teams faced significant difficulties entering the scene due to a series of secondary explosions and burning debris immediately following the initial blast. The area is now controlled with no further risk of explosions, but initial responders were unable to approach for several hours. Accurate Energetic Systems is known as a company that manufactures, stores, researches, and tests explosives for the military, aerospace, and commercial demolition markets. The facility consists of a total of 8 buildings on a 1,300-acre (about 530 hectares) site.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is still in its early stages, with authorities expecting it to take several days to determine the cause. This is the second explosion at the company since a 2014 incident at its McEwen plant, which killed one person and injured three others. Accurate Energetic Systems is currently operating a support center for the victims' families. Pentagon officials are also aware of the situation and are assessing it.
