While both clubs chose to keep the exact financial details confidential, local media reports indicate that the transfer package—including various performance-related options—amounts to approximately €5.5 million (around 8.85 billion KRW). Additionally, his former club, Red Star Belgrade, has secured a 10% sell-on clause should Augsburg transfer Seol to another team in the future. In a rather unique and notable gesture for a defensive player, Augsburg has assigned him the prestigious number 7 jersey, signaling high expectations for his impact on the pitch.

Seol’s journey to one of Europe’s top five leagues is a testament to his rapid development and consistent performances. A product of the youth system of Ulsan HD (formerly Ulsan Hyundai) in the K League 1, Seol made his professional breakthrough in 2020. During his time in domestic football, he established himself as one of the premier full-backs in South Korea, winning back-to-back K League 1 titles in 2022 and 2023, earning a spot in the K League 1 Best XI, and picking up a gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games which granted him military service exemption.

Over two successful seasons in Serbia, Seol made 101 official appearances, contributing 8 goals and 16 assists while experiencing regular action in elite European competitions like the UEFA Champions League. His stellar defensive reliability and offensive contributions earned him a place in the Serbian SuperLiga Team of the Season for two consecutive years (2024–25 and 2025–26) and helped Red Star capture consecutive domestic doubles.

On the international stage, Seol has steadily cemented his status as a core pillar for the South Korea national team. Having accumulated 37 A-international caps, he notably represented the Taeguk Warriors at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and started all three group-stage matches for his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Although the national team faced scrutiny following the World Cup campaign, Seol's relentless work rate, tactical flexibility, and ability to operate comfortably on both the right and left flanks continued to attract attention from scouts across Europe's top leagues.
