Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates  – His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, received Santiago Peña, President of the Republic of Paraguay, at Wahat Al Karama in Abu Dhabi during his official visit to the UAE. This visit is considered a significant occasion for strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding economic cooperation between the UAE and Paraguay.

Discussions on Enhancing Bilateral Cooperation

Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed Al Nahyan and President Peña held talks and engaged in in-depth discussions on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. This meeting served to reaffirm the growing relationship between the UAE and Paraguay, with particular interest focused on potential collaborations in the economic, trade, and investment spheres. Both nations are expected to explore concrete cooperation projects in mutually beneficial areas such as energy, infrastructure, and agriculture.

The meeting was attended by key dignitaries including Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development; Dr. Al Saghira Wabran Alahbabi, UAE Ambassador to Paraguay; and Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail. The presence of these high-level officials underscored the importance and expectations placed on this meeting by both countries.

Homage and Respect at Wahat Al Karama

Following the discussions, Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed Al Nahyan and President Peña reviewed the guard of honor and laid wreaths at the Martyrs' Memorial. President Peña was briefed on Wahat Al Karama, which symbolizes the heroism of the UAE people who sacrificed to defend the nation and safeguard its achievements. Wahat Al Karama is a crucial symbolic site honoring the UAE's history and spirit, reminding visitors of the values of dedication and sacrifice for the nation.

Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed Al Nahyan praised the development of relations between the UAE and the Republic of Paraguay in all fields, supported by the guidance and leadership of both heads of state, emphasizing cooperation to achieve the common interests of both nations. He reiterated, "Wahat Al Karama embodies the appreciation and respect of the UAE leadership for the heroes who sacrificed their noble lives for the homeland, symbolizing the values of heroism, courage, and sacrifice that Emirati generations will proudly uphold."

At the end of the visit, President Peña signed the Wahat Al Karama Visitors’ Book, leaving a message of gratitude to the UAE martyrs. This can be interpreted as the Paraguayan President expressing deep respect for the UAE's historical values and spirit of sacrifice.

UAE-Paraguay Relations and Future Outlook

Though geographically distant, the UAE and Paraguay have been strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties in recent years. The UAE, as a major economic hub and investor in the Middle East, is seeking to diversify its relationships with South American countries. Paraguay, a member of Mercosur, the South American common market, is interested in expanding its access to the Middle Eastern market.

Economic Cooperation: Paraguay is a country with developed agriculture and livestock sectors, being a major producer of soybeans, meat, and grains. The UAE prioritizes food security, making Paraguayan agricultural products a significant supply source for the UAE market. Furthermore, UAE institutions like the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development are likely to invest in Paraguay's infrastructure development projects. Specifically, UAE companies such as Etihad Rail have the potential to contribute to improving Paraguay's logistics and transportation infrastructure. This is expected to positively impact the increase in bilateral trade volume and attraction of investment.

Diplomatic Significance: In recent years, the UAE has expanded its diplomatic horizons through its 'Eastern Policy,' strengthening relationships with diverse regions such as Asia, Africa, and South America. Strengthening ties with Paraguay can contribute to the UAE's expanding influence in the Latin American region. Paraguay, in turn, can enhance its international standing and pursue economic diversification through its relationship with the UAE, a key Middle Eastern nation. Both countries have room for mutual cooperation on international platforms like the United Nations, which can contribute to addressing global issues.

Cultural and Human Exchange: Beyond economic and diplomatic cooperation, the importance of cultural and human exchange is also growing. The UAE is a multicultural society inhabited by people of various nationalities, and Paraguay also possesses a unique cultural background. Cultural exchange programs, educational cooperation, and the promotion of tourism to foster mutual understanding can also contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

President Peña's official visit to the UAE and his meeting with Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed Al Nahyan clearly demonstrate both nations' commitment to building a future-oriented partnership. Moving forward, cooperation between the UAE and Paraguay is expected to further expand and deepen across various sectors.
