Samsung SDI has unveiled a battery solution tailored for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, officially making its move to target the rapidly growing data center infrastructure market fueled by the AI boom.

Samsung SDI announced on the 29th that it is participating in "Data Centre World Asia (DCWA) 2026," Asia's largest data center exhibition, which opened in Singapore. This marks the first time Samsung SDI has set up a booth at the exhibition.

The core exhibit is the "cylindrical lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery (pictured)," making its physical debut at this event. By applying a proprietary structural design, the company has boosted both energy density and output. The strategy is to absorb demand in the backup power market by combining LFP materials—known for their exceptional price competitiveness and safety—with advanced technology. Safety technologies aimed at lowering fire risks were also prominently featured. The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solution placed at the center of the booth passed all criteria in the Large Scale Fire Test (LSFT) for indoor use conducted by global safety certification organization UL Solutions, according to Samsung SDI. It is the first time in the industry to pass tests preventing battery explosions and thermal propagation. In the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) zone, the company exhibited ternary "21700 cylindrical batteries" that reduce the risk of thermal runaway through a bottom-vent design. It also showcased "prismatic LFP batteries" intended for "SBB 2.0," an all-in-one energy storage system (ESS) solution.

During the exhibition, Samsung SDI plans to conduct order-securing activities targeting global clients and deliver direct presentations on its battery solutions at a local technical conference. Amid the electric vehicle demand slowdown (chasm), the company's vision is to establish global big tech data centers—which feature high power consumption and fire concerns—as its new revenue foundation.

An official from Samsung SDI stated, "Based on battery technology with enhanced performance and safety, we will continue to introduce differentiated solutions that can meet the diverse demands of data center customers."
