The South Korean men’s recurve archery team has once again proven why they are the undisputed kings of the sport, delivering a masterclass in teamwork and precision to secure the gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
A Dominant Run to the Gold
On October 2, the powerhouse trio of Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Hall), Lee Woo-seok (Kolon), and Kim Je-deok (Yecheon County Office) faced off against a formidable Indian team in the men’s recurve team final. Held at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Ground in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, the match showcased South Korea's nerves of steel under pressure.
After a closely contested first set that ended in a 56-56 draw, the Korean squad shifted into high gear. They dominated the second set 57-50 and edged out a tight third set 56-54, sealing a decisive 5-1 set victory to claim the championship title.
Milestones and Legacy of the Champions
This victory marks the second gold medal for South Korea in archery at the ongoing 2026 Asian Games—following Kim Jong-ho’s earlier triumph in the men’s compound individual event—and serves as the 32nd gold medal overall for the South Korean delegation.
The triumph was especially historic for veteran archer Kim Woo-jin, who added another crowning achievement to his legendary career by reclaiming the Asian Games team gold medal 16 years after his first win at the 2010 Guangzhou Games. Meanwhile, fellow stars Lee Woo-seok and Kim Je-deok, both key members of the gold-medal-winning team at the previous 2022 Hangzhou Games, successfully defended their title to achieve a remarkable two-peat (back-to-back victories).
With this stellar performance, the South Korean men's recurve team has once again cemented the nation’s unrivaled legacy, dominance, and unwavering supremacy on the global archery stage.
