SAN FRANCISCO — Cami Clark, the wife of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, has become the center of intense public and media scrutiny following a recent investigative report by The Wall Street Journal. The report revealed that more than a decade ago, Clark sought investment from the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for an adult entertainment venture she co-founded. 

The Epstein Connection 

According to emails released as part of the public records surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, Clark — an entrepreneur before her marriage to Amodei in 2022 — reached out to the disgraced financier between 2011 and 2013. At the time, Clark and her business partner, Michelle Capocefalo, were seeking backing for "Eddice," a startup they described as a "revolutionary" and "upscale" porn company. 

The documents show that Clark sent Epstein treatments and scripts for planned adult films, including one titled American Girl in Paris. In a follow-up email, she reminded Epstein of their previous introduction, pitching the "free luxury porn company." While Epstein responded that he remembered the proposal, he ultimately declined to invest, stating he "can’t do sex TV." 

The records indicate that the two remained in contact for several years, with Clark even inviting Epstein to a housewarming party in Manhattan. There is no evidence in the records suggesting that Epstein ever invested in her businesses, nor is there any accusation that Clark participated in any of Epstein's criminal activities. 

Influence in Silicon Valley and Anthropic 

The revelation has cast a new light on Clark’s role in the inner circles of Silicon Valley, despite her not holding a formal position at Anthropic. Known as the "first lady" of the AI company, Clark has been a consistent presence by Dario Amodei's side at major global events, including the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Sun Valley Conference, and a recent AI summit in India. 

The Wall Street Journal investigation suggests that Clark’s influence extended behind the scenes: 

Strategic Connections: Clark reportedly played a key role in connecting her then-partner, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, to Dario Amodei in early 2021. This introduction is widely viewed as a catalyst for Schmidt’s participation in Anthropic’s $124 million Series A funding round. 
Networking: Clark is also credited with introducing former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati to Anthropic’s leadership. 
Political Outreach: As tensions have risen between Anthropic and the current U.S. administration, Clark has reportedly acted as a bridge to political circles, including meetings with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner. Sources say she sought to reframe Anthropic’s image, distancing it from perceptions of being overly "woke" and emphasizing its mission as a company committed to American national security.

Navigating Public Perception

The report also addresses efforts to manage Clark’s digital footprint. Until recently, Dario Amodei’s Wikipedia page contained little information about his marital status, and AI models like Claude—the flagship product of his own company—reportedly provided vague or non-committal answers when asked about his spouse. Following the publication of the WSJ report, these profiles have been updated to reflect their relationship and professional background. 

As Anthropic navigates a critical period of growth and geopolitical scrutiny, the spotlight on the CEO’s family history and personal networks underscores the complex intersections of private life, industry influence, and public accountability in the high-stakes world of artificial intelligence.
