Asunción, Paraguay - Paraguay's Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare has announced the commencement of a nationwide influenza (flu) vaccination campaign starting today, Thursday, April 3rd. This initiative aims to protect the health of the population in anticipation of the winter flu season, with the primary goal of reducing infection rates and the occurrence of severe illness through widespread immunization.

The vaccination campaign will be conducted in two phases:

Phase 1: Beginning today, the first phase of the campaign targets all individuals aged 3 years and older. Vaccines have already been distributed to health centers and designated medical facilities across the country, where vaccinations are now available.

Phase 2: The second phase will focus on infants between the ages of 6 months and 35 months. These vaccinations will begin once an additional shipment of vaccines, currently en route from Australia, arrives in the country.

Special Vaccine for Individuals Over 60: The Ministry of Health is also introducing an influenza vaccine with an added immune-boosting agent specifically for individuals aged 60 and over. This enhanced vaccine is expected to arrive in Paraguay within the next few days.

Individuals aged 60 and above are encouraged to receive the currently available standard influenza vaccine without delay. Those who receive the standard vaccine will not need an additional dose of the immune-boosting vaccine once it becomes available.

Influenza typically circulates during the winter months and can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, particularly in the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent influenza infection, alleviate symptoms if infection occurs, and reduce the risk of complications.
