Concepción, Paraguay - Paraguay is in the final stages of preparation for the construction of its first-ever concrete road. The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) is currently finalizing the technical details for this groundbreaking project, which will connect Posso Colorado and Concepción along National Route PY 05.
Currently, work is underway at the construction site to establish worker accommodations. This includes the foundational work for basic amenities, offices, workshops, and residential facilities. Additionally, the construction of a dike (tajamar) is in progress as part of building a reservoir to secure the necessary water for the construction.
Surveying work and technical reviews are also being conducted to accurately assess the terrain characteristics before the full deployment of equipment.
Paraguay's inaugural concrete road will span a total of 90.2 kilometers and will be built in two sections (A and B). Section A (53.3 km) will be undertaken by the Avanza Chaco Consortium, consisting of Tecnoedil SA, Ocho SA, and Construpar SA. Section B (36.2 km) will be constructed by Ecomipa.
Once the official commencement order is issued, the project aims for completion within 20 months. A total of US$78 million is being invested in this project, with support from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).
A law in Paraguay mandating the obligatory use of concrete pavement underscores the material's advantages, such as its exceptional durability.
Advantages of Concrete Roads:
Superior Durability: Longer lifespan compared to asphalt roads, leading to reduced maintenance costs.
High Load-Bearing Capacity: Advantageous for sections with heavy traffic, resistant to deformation and damage.
Excellent Safety: Higher skid resistance results in shorter braking distances on wet surfaces, reducing the risk of traffic accidents.
Eco-friendliness: Recyclable and can contribute to mitigating the heat island effect.
This concrete road construction is anticipated to be a significant milestone in the development of Paraguay's road infrastructure. It is expected to greatly enhance the efficiency of logistics and reduce long-term maintenance expenses.
