The World Brangus Congress is set to take place in Paraguay in May 2028. This event is expected to be a significant opportunity to showcase the remarkable genetic advancements and adaptability of the Paraguayan Brangus breed to the entire world. Returning to Paraguay 19 years after its last occurrence in 2009, this congress will be organized by Brangus Paraguay and will run concurrently with the National Autumn Expo.

Guillermo Sisul, a member of the Brangus Paraguay board of directors, emphasized that the congress is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the evolved state of the Brangus breed, its animal types, and the production systems that have significantly progressed over the past few years. He stated, "This is a very important time for the Brangus breed, with Paraguayan genetics being exported to other countries and champions distinguishing themselves in national and international exhibitions." Indeed, several Brangus animals were crowned Grand Champions at the 2024 Expo, proving their excellence.

Paraguayan Brangus Reaches World-Class Status

Sisul asserted that thanks to the continuous efforts of Brangus breeders and the association, Paraguayan Brangus has now reached a world-class level. He commented, "It's difficult to rank, but if we compare the quality of the animals at our exhibitions with those in neighboring countries, we can see that Paraguayan Brangus is at a very high level and is internationally respected." This assessment suggests that Paraguayan Brangus is producing high-quality cattle through a combination of global breeding techniques.

One of the key success factors for Paraguayan Brangus is its exceptional environmental adaptability. Sisul explained that the Brangus breed is successfully raised throughout Paraguay, from the southern regions of Ñeembucú and Misiones to northern Chaco, bordering Bolivia.

He added, "This breed is very flexible, adapts well to all regions, and shows good results in crossbreeding. It also boasts excellent reproductive capabilities and meat quality that is highly valued in the most demanding markets." Brangus thrives in hot climates and various pasture conditions, and its excellent disease resistance makes it an optimized breed for Paraguay's extensive cattle-raising environment.

Continuous Investment in Genetics and Strengthening International Standing

A representative of Brangus breeders highlighted that continuous investment in genetics is crucial for breed improvement. He explained, "Embryos, semen, and cattle have always been imported from Argentina and other countries. The animals currently bred in Paraguay are adapted to our climate and production systems. All of this leads to meat with better quality, more marbling, and higher commercial value." Indeed, Paraguay has secured the genetic diversity and excellence of the Brangus breed through such active introduction of genetic resources and its own breeding efforts.

Sisul emphasized that Paraguay is already exporting Brangus genetics to countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Brazil. Furthermore, an increasing number of companies are investing in improving hygiene and quality protocols required by international markets, suggesting that the overseas expansion of Paraguayan Brangus will further accelerate. This signifies that Paraguay is not merely raising cattle but is emerging as a leading nation in producing and exporting high-value genetics.

The Brangus Paraguay association is continuously working to disseminate the breed and provide necessary tools to Paraguayan producers. Sisul stated, "The animal that will likely be the Grand Champion of the next World Congress is probably being born today. We are thinking about the future and are striving from now to show the best of Paraguayan Brangus to the world," indicating a long-term commitment to breed improvement and promotion.

The World Brangus Congress, set for May 2028, is expected to stimulate the Paraguayan economy, promote tourism, and internationally position Paraguay as a strategic supplier of high-quality meat.

During the congress, in addition to exhibitions showcasing the genetic excellence of the Brangus breed, in-depth discussions on breeding techniques, rearing methods, and market trends will take place. It will be a significant event where Brangus breeders and experts from around the world gather to exchange knowledge and explore cooperation opportunities.
