The Bucheon Cultural Foundation is successfully hosting 'Bunker's Day,' a festival offering a variety of programs for the whole family to enjoy culture and arts in celebration of the Family Month of May. The festival, which runs until June 8th at the Bucheon Art Bunker B39, is gaining enthusiastic responses from citizens by providing rich attractions and activities centered around the children's performance video screening 'Bunker Children's Theater' and the original picture book exhibition 'Bunker and Friend Saida' by local children's book author Saida.

'Bunker's Day' is a complex cultural festival that Bucheon Art Bunker B39 has been holding annually in May to commemorate Family Month since 2023, and this year marks its third iteration. Bucheon Art Bunker B39, which transformed the historical space of a waste incinerator into a cultural and artistic venue, contributes to expanding cultural enjoyment opportunities for local residents by showcasing its unique spatial charm along with diverse cultural and artistic programs.

One of the core programs of this 'Bunker's Day' is the 'Bunker Children's Theater,' planned as part of the 'ACC Online Theater Video Content Distribution Agency Contest' project jointly promoted by Bucheon Art Bunker B39 and the Asia Culture Center Foundation. Through this, four excellent original children's performance contents from the Asia Culture Center (ACC) with the theme of the importance of environment and nature will be screened as videos.

Screenings are held every Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Multimedia Hall (MMH) on the first floor of Bucheon Art Bunker B39, targeting children aged 36 months and older and their guardians. The scheduled screenings are ▶May 10th 'Giant Angaro,' ▶May 17th 'New Friend,' ▶May 24th 'Gurgle Gurgle Whales Whales,' and ▶May 31st 'Where Should I Go?' In particular, simple food and beverages are allowed during the performance video screenings, providing a more comfortable and friendly atmosphere for families. Admission is free, and participation applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through a Google Form pre-registration system.

Another major program, the picture book original artwork exhibition 'Bunker and Friend Saida,' will be held until June 8th at the Bunker Gallery on the second floor of Bucheon Art Bunker B39. The protagonist of this exhibition, picture book author Saida, has resided in Bucheon for over 20 years and has consistently communicated with the local community. She is much loved for her picture books containing warm and humorous illustrations and stories.

This exhibition will feature a total of about 40 original picture book artworks, including the author's representative work and bestseller, 「Sweet Potato Sweet Potato」, as well as 「Leaf Friend」, 「Mint Chocolate Strawberry」, and 「Heart Thief」. It is expected that young visitors will be able to feel the beauty of picture books more deeply through the author's delicate and unique illustrations. This exhibition is planned as part of Bucheon Art Bunker B39's 'Monthly B39' project, which continuously discovers and introduces local artists to citizens, and it holds special significance in May by featuring child visitors as the main focus. Admission to the exhibition is free without prior reservation.

Special programs in connection with the exhibition have also been prepared. On the 17th, a 'Conversation with the Author (Book Talk)' will be held, providing an opportunity to hear stories about the works and the creative process directly from picture book author Saida. Additionally, on the 31st, a children's art education workshop will be held for children in grades 1-3 of elementary school. This workshop is expected to provide opportunities for children to develop their creativity and artistic sensitivity through various art activities inspired by the author's world of works. Applications for the workshop can be made in advance through the Bucheon Art Bunker B39 website, and participation is free.

Bucheon Art Bunker B39 is closed every Monday and public holidays, and its operating hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. More detailed information about the event and how to apply can be found on the Bucheon Art Bunker B39 website (www.b39.or.kr).

The Bucheon Cultural Foundation stated that this 'Bunker's Day' was planned to allow all family members to experience art together and to foster cultural sensitivity through interaction with local artists. In the future, Bucheon Art Bunker B39 plans to continuously present diverse programs as a complex cultural and artistic space where citizens and artists actively communicate and interact, contributing to the development of local culture and arts. In particular, it is expected to further solidify its role as a cultural landmark in the local community, offering a meaningful experience where the past space of a waste incinerator newly permeates the lives of citizens through culture and art.
