Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 22nd that it will host the '4th Jeonbuk Gender Equality Film Festival' alongside the Jeonbuk Women and Family Foundation to spread the values and culture of gender equality in everyday life through the medium of film.
Marking its 4th anniversary this year, the film festival was designed to provide opportunities for empathy and communication by sharing diverse stories of life. In particular, following Jeonju and Wanju, this year's event holds even greater significance as it is being held in Gunsan, a city with deep social interest in women's rights, safety, and dignity.
The film festival will take place for two days from the 23rd to the 24th at Gunsan Hall (308 Daehak-ro, Naun-dong, Gunsan-si), with a total of 8 diverse feature and short films screened free of charge.
Starting with director Ma Min-ji's opening film "Landing Practice," which delicately portrays the recovery process of a sexual violence survival survivor, films such as "Jaemin-i," "What Do You See in Me," "Maru and My Friends' Wedding," "Menopausal Girl's Struggle," "Sunhee Eomma," and "Snow Falling in Summer" will meet the audience. Following this, the closing film "There's Still Tomorrow for Us" is expected to deliver a profound resonance to the audience.
In addition to the screened films, programs designed to extend the lingering emotional impact of the films into deep communication have been prepared. Guest and audience conversations (GV) and talks featuring diverse figures such as directors, actors, and activists will take place, planning to share the films' messages in a more profound manner.
Furthermore, an exhibition titled "The Words and Lives of Women in Korean Cinema," which reflects on women's lives and experiences through lines and voices from films by Korean female directors, alongside a special exhibition reinterpreting the history and spaces of Gunsan from a female perspective, are expected to captivate visitors.
Lee Mi-sook, Head of the Women and Family Division at Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "We hope this film festival will be a precious time for residents to ponder deeply on gender equality and warmly empathize with each other's lives," adding, "We ask for the great interest and participation of provincial residents so that the value of gender equality can widely spread in everyday life."
Advance reservations for the film festival are conducted online and can be applied for via the reservation page (wuman.co.kr/more2026).
