Manila, Philippines – Berde Renewables Inc., a distributed renewable energy company backed by I Squared Capital, has announced a significant expansion of its clean energy partnership with Holcim Philippines, a major cement manufacturer in the Philippines. This expansion builds upon the success of existing rooftop solar power projects and aims to further integrate renewable energy across Holcim’s industrial operations.

Under the expanded agreement, Berde Renewables will be responsible for the design, construction, and management of additional solar power installations at Holcim facilities located in Davao City and Lugait, Misamis Oriental. These new projects will increase the total installed solar capacity between the two companies to 12.79 megawatt-peak (MWp), which is projected to generate approximately 21,263 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This is expected to result in a reduction of 14,000 metric tons of carbon emissions per year, contributing to Holcim’s goal of reducing its Scope 2 emissions by 65% by 2030.

Patrick Zhu, CEO of Berde Renewables, expressed his pride in being reselected after a competitive bidding process, stating, "Being chosen once again demonstrates Holcim's deep trust in our expertise." He further added, "We are honored to expand this partnership and further contribute to the renewable energy transition in the Philippines."

Nicolas George, CEO of Holcim Philippines, also emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting, "Berde Renewables' consistent performance makes them a key partner in achieving our sustainability objectives." He further highlighted, "This initiative marks a significant step in reducing our environmental footprint."

Key Players:

I Squared Capital: A global infrastructure investment fund focusing on energy, utilities, transport, and telecommunications. Its investment in Berde Renewables contributes to the growth of the renewable energy market in the Philippines.
Holcim Philippines: A subsidiary of the Swiss-based global construction materials company Holcim Group, and a major player in the Philippine cement market. The company is actively pursuing the adoption of renewable energy for sustainable operations.
Key Terms:

Scope 2 emissions: Indirect greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the generation of purchased or acquired electricity, steam, heating, and cooling consumed by a company.
Megawatt-peak (MWp): The maximum power capacity that a photovoltaic installation can produce under optimal conditions.
Megawatt-hour (MWh): A unit of energy representing one million watts of electricity consumed or produced for one hour, used to measure electricity generation and consumption.
The expanded partnership between Berde Renewables and Holcim Philippines is seen as a significant step towards accelerating the adoption of renewable energy in the industrial sector of the Philippines and promoting sustainable development. It is anticipated that the collaboration between the two companies will encourage more businesses to adopt environmentally friendly energy solutions and contribute to the national goal of reducing carbon emissions.
