Harrison Ford, the legendary actor synonymous with the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" franchises, has been named the recipient of the 61st SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists announced on December 18 (local time) that Ford will be honored for his extraordinary career achievements and humanitarian contributions.
Spanning over six decades, Ford’s career is a testament to his status as a pillar of American cinema. After making his debut with a bit part in the 1966 film Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round, he catapulted to global stardom as Han Solo in Star Wars (1977). He further solidified his legacy as the whip-cracking archeologist Indiana Jones, a role he reprised for over 40 years, concluding with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023).
His filmography includes numerous box-office hits and critically acclaimed works such as:
Blade Runner (1982)
Patriot Games (1992)
The Fugitive (1993)
Air Force One (1997)
In a statement, the 83-year-old actor expressed deep gratitude, noting that being recognized by his peers carries profound weight. "I’ve spent the majority of my life working on sets with incredible actors and crews, and I have always been grateful to be part of this community," Ford remarked.
SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin praised Ford as an "unparalleled presence in American culture," noting that his iconic characters have shaped global storytelling. Beyond his acting, Ford has been a dedicated advocate for environmental conservation, serving on the board of Conservation International for over 30 years.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 1, 2026, where the industry will celebrate a legend whose influence on the art of filmmaking remains indelible.
