Marina Sánchez, a renowned Uruguayan choreographer and resident choreographer of the National Ballet (SODRE), has returned to Asunción with a new interpretation of the classic ballet "Cinderella." This time, she is taking on the roles of creator and artistic director.

Sánchez said that "Cinderella" holds a significant place in her career as a dancer, and that this project was personally very meaningful. Her version of "Cinderella," which combines humor, light-hearted rhythms, and an aesthetic that blends classical and modern elements, received an enthusiastic response from the audience at its premiere on August 1.

The work, choreographed by Sánchez with music by Sergei Prokofiev arranged by Esteban Urtiaga, will be performed at the Ignacio A. Pane Municipal Theater until August 10.

A conversation with Marina Sánchez

How was your experience working with the dancers in this new role?

"It was a beautiful experience. From the very first day, the dancers welcomed me warmly and showed a sincere passion for participating in a new creative project. It was a very enriching process, and I'm still so happy."

What can audiences expect from this version of "Cinderella"?

"It's a light-hearted, fresh, and fun version. It's full of humor and love. It includes all the elements we expect from 'Cinderella': the glass slipper, the pumpkin carriage, the magic, and so on. While respecting the story we all know, we tried to infuse it with a different energy that makes it more accessible and enjoyable."

Can you tell us about the music?

"The music was a very important part. Prokofiev's original score is over two hours long, so we arranged it to create a more flowing rhythm to match the new choreography. We worked meticulously with Esteban Urtiaga to ensure the dramatic and rhythmic consistency of the entire work."

How does it feel to be back in Paraguay as a choreographer?

"It's a joy I can't express in words. I used to be a dancer in this company, and I always wanted to come back. It was a truly moving and beautiful experience to return as a choreographer with such a special work. I am deeply grateful."

How do you evaluate the Paraguayan dancers?

"I saw great dedication and talent. I saw a company that, despite difficulties, stands strong. I'm also very happy that there's an academy that teaches children from a young age. The child dancers who participated in this production (as mice), in particular, are absolutely lovely. A new generation with enormous potential is emerging, and that gives me hope."

What are the performance dates?

"The show will continue until August 10 at the Ignacio A. Pane Municipal Theater."
