Gyeongsangbuk-do announced that it is holding the '2026 Gyeongsangbuk-do Architectural Culture Day' from October 1 to October 4 at the Andong Arts Center, aiming to shed new light on regional architectural assets and explore the future of architectural culture.
This year's theme is 'Traditional Wisdom, Current Opportunity.' The theme carries the meaning of looking back at the value of architecture accumulated over a long time from today's perspective and passing it on to future architectural culture.
Launched in 2009, Gyeongsangbuk-do Architectural Culture Day has established itself as an event that promotes regional architectural technology and culture while expanding the public value of architecture. It continues as a festival where not only architectural experts but also local residents and students can experience and communicate regional architectural culture.
The exhibition venue features winning works from the Gyeongsangbuk-do Architectural Culture Awards, the Student Works Competition, and the Architectural Artists Invitational Exhibition, alongside winning designs from design competitions and the AI Architectural Culture Competition. A special exhibition by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education and an Andong Special Exhibition are also being presented together.
For the Gyeongsangbuk-do Architectural Culture Awards, seven works were selected, including the Sangju Dodream City Library, Gaeun Campus, and Aurora. Winning works from the Student Works Competition include three pieces: 'The Third Shore', 'UNBOUND', and 'Scenes'. The Architectural Artists Invitational Exhibition featured five works, including 'Private Space'. Certificates from the Provincial Governor were awarded to the winners.
Architect Cho Jung-goo’s architectural special lecture titled 'New Old' is also being held. Generation-specific experiential programs are operated concurrently, including a construction safety experience booth (VR), building children's gingerbread houses, making concrete flower pots, and architectural culture tours.
Park Jong-tae, Director-General of the Construction and Urban Affairs Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "Architecture goes beyond creating spaces; it is a cultural asset that captures the history, lives, and identity of a region." He added, "We hope this event will serve as an opportunity to connect the wisdom accumulated within tradition to new architectural culture and create valuable future cultural heritage unique to Gyeongbuk."
