CHEONAN, South Korea – Cheonan City announced on May 19th that it will expand the boarding locations for its regular city tour course throughout the month of June. This strategic move aims to integrate daily transportation needs with tourism-oriented transit and enhance connectivity with the city's southern tourist attractions.

Enhanced Accessibility for Visitors

For the entirety of June, the KTX Cheonan-Asan Station will be an official boarding point for the Cheonan City Tour. This addition brings the total number of boarding locations to four, including the existing points at Cheonan City Hall, Cheonan Station, and the Cheonan Bus Terminal. The KTX Cheonan-Asan Station is a crucial transportation hub, serving not only Cheonan but also Asan, providing high-speed rail access to major cities across South Korea, including Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon. Its inclusion is expected to significantly improve accessibility for both domestic and international tourists arriving by train, directly channeling them towards Cheonan's cultural and natural landmarks.

Exploring Cheonan's Rich Heritage

The Cheonan City Tour operates four times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The current itinerary takes visitors on a comprehensive journey through some of Cheonan's most significant historical and recreational sites. These include the Yu Gwan-sun Martyrs' Shrine, dedicated to the revered independence activist, and the Independence Hall of Korea, a paramount institution preserving the history of Korea's independence movements.

Nature lovers can enjoy the Taejosan Mountain Forest Leports Park and its barrier-free nature trail, offering accessible outdoor recreation, as well as the tranquil Taehak Mountain Healing Forest, a serene escape designed for relaxation and rejuvenation. The tour also includes visits to the Korea Post Museum (Ujeong Museum), which showcases the history of postal services in Korea, and the Hong Dae-yong Science Museum, dedicated to the renowned Joseon Dynasty scholar and scientist.

Booking for the Cheonan City Tour, including the selection of preferred boarding points, can be made through the Cheonan City Culture and Tourism website or at the Tourist Information Centers located at Cheonan Station and Cheonan Bus Terminal.

The city anticipates that adding KTX Cheonan-Asan Station as a boarding point will establish a more integrated tourism transportation system linked to the southern region's attractions, thereby increasing accessibility and contributing to the revitalization of tourism in Cheonan's southern areas.

Looking ahead, Cheonan City also plans to restructure its city tour courses starting in the latter half of the year. This reform aims to further boost tourism in the southern region by incorporating new attractions such as 'Museum Walnut' (뮤지엄호두) in Gwangdeok-myeon, the newly renovated Cheonan Museum, and the iconic Cheonan Samgeori Park, a historical crossroads. This diversification of routes is expected to offer visitors an even broader and richer experience of Cheonan's unique charm.

Lee Gye-ja, head of Cheonan City's Tourism Department, expressed optimism about the expansion: "By adding KTX Cheonan-Asan Station as a city tour boarding point, we expect railway tourists to easily access Cheonan's southern tourist attractions. If the trial operation shows high demand, we plan to make it a regular boarding point." This pilot program underscores Cheonan's commitment to continuously improving its tourism infrastructure and visitor experience.
