Seoul, South Korea – The relics of Carlo Acutis, a young Italian computer prodigy who became known as the "digital apostle" for his online evangelization efforts, have arrived in South Korea. Acutis, who passed away at the age of 15 from acute leukemia, is set to become the first millennial to be canonized by the Catholic Church in 2025.
On November 16, Father Wil Conquer of the Paris Foreign Missions handed over a portion of Acutis's hair and a certificate of authenticity to Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taek of Seoul. Acutis, born in Milan in 1991, was a computer prodigy who taught himself coding at a young age. At the age of 10, he began creating a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles and Marian apparitions around the world, earning him the title of "digital apostle."
Following his death, Acutis was beatified by Pope Francis in recognition of his extraordinary virtues. This year, the Pope authorized his canonization, making him the youngest person to be beatified in the 20th century.
The relics of Acutis will be enshrined in a chapel at the 2027 World Youth Day (WYD) Organizing Committee Center in Myeongdong, Seoul.
The year 2025 marks a Jubilee Year, a special time of grace proclaimed by the Church every 50 or 25 years. Pope Francis has officially declared this Jubilee Year to run from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2026.
Acutis's story has resonated with young people around the world, inspiring them to use technology for the greater good and to deepen their faith. His canonization is expected to further solidify his status as a role model for young Catholics.
