Cheonan, South Korea – The city of Cheonan, aiming to cement its reputation as a "City of Bread," has witnessed an overwhelming response to its call for the "2025 Bakery Pilgrimage Ppang-Ppang Day" participants. The event, designed to promote local bakeries and healthy, high-quality bread from Cheonan across the nation, received an astonishing 2,386 applications for just 400 available spots.
The recruitment drive for the "2025 Bakery Pilgrimage Ppang-Ppang Day," held from April 28th to May 14th, clearly captured the public's imagination, underscoring the growing interest in regional culinary tourism. The event, hosted and organized by the Cheonan City Branch of the Korea Confectionery Association and supported by Cheonan City, is slated to take place over two days, from June 14th to 15th, 2025.
Selected participants in the "Bakery Pilgrimage Group" will embark on a unique journey. Each team will visit two designated bakeries out of 77 participating establishments. Beyond the delicious treats, the itinerary also includes a visit to a traditional market and one of Cheonan's celebrated "Eight Scenic Views" (Cheonan 8 Gyeong). A key component of their role is to share their experiences and impressions on their personal social media networks, acting as grassroots ambassadors for Cheonan's local bakeries and its broader attractions. This digital outreach is expected to significantly boost the city's profile as a culinary destination.
The selection results for the 400 teams will be announced on May 20th on the official Cheonan Ppang-Ppang Day blog, with individual notifications sent to those selected.
Park Chang-ho, head of the Cheonan City Branch of the Korea Confectionery Association, expressed his gratitude for the immense interest. "We are truly thankful to everyone who showed such enthusiastic support for our Bakery Pilgrimage Group recruitment," he stated. "We are committed to making this event a success, not only in promoting Cheonan's delicious bread nationwide but also in creating enjoyable memories for all participants."
Lee Seon-hee, head of the Food Safety Division, echoed this sentiment. "We anticipate the Bakery Pilgrimage Group will serve as small ambassadors for Cheonan, tasting healthy bread made with local agricultural products and discovering the diverse charms of Cheonan by visiting our Eight Scenic Views and traditional markets," she remarked. "We sincerely hope many will join us for this delicious journey, the '2025 Bakery Pilgrimage Ppang-Ppang Day,' in the City of Bread, Cheonan."
