Nvidia Unveils Cosmos: A New AI Platform for Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles

Las Vegas, NV – Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced a groundbreaking new AI platform, Cosmos, at CES 2025. This platform is designed to accelerate the development of robotics and autonomous vehicles by providing developers with the tools they need to create sophisticated AI models.

Huang envisions a future where AI extends beyond digital realms and into the physical world, powering intelligent robots and self-driving cars. Cosmos is a significant step toward this vision, offering a comprehensive platform for training and deploying AI models that can perceive and interact with the physical environment.

"We're entering the age of ChatGPT for robotics," Huang declared. "Just as large language models have revolutionized natural language processing, Cosmos will be foundational to the development of advanced robots and autonomous vehicles."

Cosmos is comprised of cutting-edge generative AI models, a state-of-the-art tokenizer for processing text, and an accelerated video processing pipeline. These components work together to enable developers to train AI models on massive amounts of data much faster than previously possible. For instance, Cosmos can process 20 million hours of video in just 14 days, a task that would take over three years on a CPU alone.

To demonstrate the power of Cosmos, Nvidia has partnered with several leading robotics and autonomous vehicle companies, including Agile Robotics, Figure AI, and Waymo. These companies will be using Cosmos to develop new generations of robots and self-driving cars.

Beyond Robotics

In addition to announcing Cosmos, Nvidia also unveiled the RTX 50 series of GPUs. Powered by Nvidia's latest AI accelerator, Blackwell, these GPUs offer significant performance improvements compared to their predecessors. The RTX 5090, the flagship model, boasts 920 billion transistors and can perform 3.352 quadrillion AI operations per second, more than double the performance of the RTX 4090.

Remarkably, Nvidia has managed to achieve these performance gains while also reducing costs. The RTX 5070, which offers similar performance to the RTX 4090, is priced at just $549, a fraction of the cost of its predecessor. Huang attributed this cost reduction to advancements in AI technology.

"AI has enabled us to dramatically reduce the cost of these GPUs," Huang said. "This is a testament to the power of AI to drive innovation and make technology more accessible to everyone."

With the introduction of Cosmos and the RTX 50 series, Nvidia is positioning itself as a leader in the rapidly evolving field of AI. As AI continues to transform industries, Nvidia's technology is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future.
