DUBAI & ABU DHABI, UAE – NongHyup (National Agricultural Cooperative Federation) is making significant strides into the Middle Eastern market, officially launching Halal-certified Hanwoo (Korean beef) in the United Arab Emirates. This strategic move, announced by NongHyup Economic Division on June 17th (local time June 16th), marks the beginning of a dedicated "UAE NongHyup Hanwoo Export Pioneer Group" initiative aimed at expanding the reach of premium Korean beef in the region.

This recent push is a direct follow-up to a Middle East Hanwoo export business agreement signed in March. The current delegation includes representatives from eight prominent Hanwoo brands across South Korea, including Gangwon Hanwoo, Myeongsil Sanggam Hanwoo, and Hoengseong Hanwoo, showcasing the collective effort to promote Korean beef.

Grand Halal Hanwoo Launch Showcases Premium Quality

A major highlight of the initiative was the "Halal Hanwoo Launch Show" held at the Hilton Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Co-hosted with the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the UAE, the event drew approximately 150 attendees, including local buyers, hotel chefs, and influential figures in the food industry. The aim was to introduce and highlight the unique taste and superior quality of Hanwoo.

Renowned Chef Choi Hyun-seok captivated the audience with a live cooking demonstration, showcasing various cuts of Hanwoo and emphasizing its versatility and distinct characteristics. According to NongHyup, attendees expressed overwhelmingly positive feedback, noting the beef's "unique flavor and texture." This positive reception underscores the potential for Hanwoo to carve out a niche in the discerning Middle Eastern culinary landscape.

Strategic Marketing and Collaborative Initiatives Underway

Beyond the launch event, NongHyup has laid out a comprehensive plan to establish a strong export foundation in the Middle East. These efforts include:

Operating a dedicated Hanwoo promotional booth within the K-Food Fair, a key platform for introducing Korean food products to international markets.
Targeted marketing activities aimed at local buyers, fostering direct relationships and understanding market demands.
Discussions with the Consul General in Dubai, strengthening diplomatic and trade ties to facilitate smoother export processes.
An inauguration ceremony for the Middle East K-Food Public-Private Cooperation Center, a collaborative hub designed to streamline and support Korean food exports to the region.
These multifaceted initiatives demonstrate NongHyup's commitment to a sustained presence and growth in the Middle Eastern market. The Middle East, with its growing demand for high-quality, Halal-certified products and its increasing interest in diverse culinary experiences, presents a lucrative opportunity for Hanwoo.

"A New Chapter for Hanwoo Exports"

Ahn Byeong-woo, CEO of NongHyup Economic Division's Livestock Economy, emphasized the significance of this venture, stating, "The activities of the UAE Pioneer Group are a signal for Hanwoo's expansion into the Middle East." He further affirmed NongHyup's dedication to "continuously expanding our capabilities for exporting high-quality livestock products." This proactive approach is expected to not only boost Hanwoo exports but also enhance the global recognition of Korean agricultural products.

The successful launch of Halal Hanwoo in the UAE is a pivotal moment for the Korean livestock industry. It opens doors to a vast and receptive market, promising to increase the global footprint of this premium Korean delicacy and contribute to the diversification of South Korea's agricultural exports.
