The Ha Noi Transport Corporation (Transerco) began replacing diesel-powered buses with electric vehicles on three routes on Friday as part of a plan to expand the city's green bus network.
Forty-six electric buses, including 35 60-seat buses and 11 18-seat buses, have been deployed on the three routes. These are VinFast's newest electric vehicle models, designed specifically for Vietnamese cities and just launched on the market.
The three routes are Route 05 (Mai Dong - Ha Noi University of Natural Resources and Environment), Route 39 (Nghia Do Park - Mai Dong), and Route 47, which is divided into Route 47A (Long Bien - Bat Trang) and Route 47B (National Economics University - Kieu Ky).
At the launch ceremony this morning, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee, praised Transerco's efforts in the rapid conversion.
According to Quyen, the municipal People's Committee issued a project on November 18, 2024, to develop a public transportation system using electric vehicles, with the goal of transitioning entirely to green, clean energy by 2030.
He requested that the city's Department of Transport collaborate closely with relevant organizations and advise the People's Committee on creating mechanisms and policies to support businesses in developing green energy buses.
Nguyen Thanh Nam, director general of Transerco, stated that the introduction of the new electric buses demonstrates the company's dedication to switching to clean transportation solutions. This has aided in lowering air and noise pollution, improving passenger safety and comfort, and contributing to the development of a green, clean, beautiful, and civilized capital city.
