Launch of Korea's National Joint-Use Platform for Secondary Battery Material Analysis and Performance Verification

The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) has unveiled the "Secondary Battery Material Analysis and Demonstration-Based Joint-Use Platform" at the K-BATTERY SHOW 2026 held at KINTEX, Ilsan. This nationwide initiative aims to address a critical bottleneck in the secondary battery industry: the high cost and limited accessibility of advanced research equipment and specialized personnel for small-to-medium enterprises and individual researchers. 

Developed as part of the "National Research Support Facility Advancement Project" spearheaded by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the National Research Facilities and Equipment Center (NFEC), the platform establishes a comprehensive, end-to-end service pipeline. Secondary batteries comprise diverse components such as cathodes, anodes, separators, and electrolytes, requiring a seamless chain of research infrastructure ranging from material analysis and electrode fabrication to charge-discharge cycling, accelerated aging, and reliability testing. Previously, independent research groups and emerging companies struggled to secure all necessary high-end equipment under one roof, delaying commercialization and technological breakthroughs. 

To bridge this gap, the newly launched platform integrates cutting-edge equipment, infrastructure, and human resources across multiple leading institutions, including KRICT, Korea University of Technology and Education (KOREATECH), the Korea Institute of Construction Living Environment (KCL), and the Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST). Operating through the ZEUS (Korea ZEUS system) reservation portal, the platform provides streamlined, one-stop access alongside a voucher system that offers substantial discounts on research facility and equipment usage fees.

Dr. Seok-min Shin, President of KRICT, emphasized that connecting the collective hardware assets and professional expertise of partnering organizations will empower enterprises and researchers to obtain vital testing support swiftly and easily, thereby accelerating domestic research and development in next-generation secondary battery technologies.
