Chungnam Province has intensified its efforts to attract Mongolian group tourists by engaging with local tourism authorities and travel industry leaders in Ulaanbaatar, expanding its reach into emerging international travel markets.

From September 16 to 18, a delegation from Chungnam Province conducted a three-day official visit to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to pioneer the Mongolian group travel market. During the trip, the delegation focused on showcasing the region's diverse attractions and establishing cooperative networks with key local partners.

Strengthening Networks with Local Tourism Authorities

The itinerary began with a strategic visit to the Mongolian Tourism Association, where delegates discussed collaborative strategies for attracting group tourists and analyzed current trends within the Mongolian outbound travel market. The provincial officials also held productive meetings with representatives from the Mongolian Tourism Corporation and prominent local travel agencies to explore comprehensive tourism exchange programs between Chungnam and Mongolia.

A major focus of these discussions was promoting major upcoming international events scheduled in the province. The delegation introduced key initiatives—such as the Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo, local island biennales, Catholic World Youth Day, and the Chungcheong Summer World University Games—to travel industry leaders. By linking these high-profile events with Chungnam’s rich natural and cultural tourism resources, the province aimed to spark interest in developing specialized travel packages.

Additionally, the delegation visited the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) Ulaanbaatar Office. There, they received briefings on core KTO initiatives, including medical tourism attraction programs tailored for Mongolian mine workers, and discussed potential avenues for Chungnam to actively participate in these projects.

Capitalizing on New Market Trends

According to data from the Korea Tourism Organization, Mongolia ranks among the top 20 source countries for inbound visitors to South Korea. Because Mongolia is a landlocked nation, outbound travelers show a strong and growing interest in non-capital regions featuring stunning natural landscapes, particularly coastal areas.

A Chungnam Province official stated, "Recognizing this trend, we are actively promoting Chungnam's diverse tourism assets, including our picturesque west coast, alongside next year's major international events. We will continue our persistent efforts to draw Mongolian travelers directly to our province."

This strategic outreach highlights Chungnam's commitment to diversifying its international tourism portfolio, positioning the region as an attractive, accessible destination for travelers seeking unique cultural and natural experiences in South Korea.
