The 3rd Mok Il-sin Camp Literary Contest will be held to honor the literary spirit of Eunseong Mok Il-sin, a great star of children's literature and a lifelong educator, and the anti-Japanese spirit of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement.
This year, marking its 3rd anniversary, the Mok Il-sin Camp Literary Contest is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education. It's jointly hosted and organized by the Mok Il-sin Cultural Foundation (Chairman Yang Jae-su) and Bucheon City, as they search for "Boy Mok Il-sin."
Online submissions for preliminary creative children's poems will begin on July 15th, and 20 finalists will be announced in October. The final on-site literary contest will be held at the Bucheon Starry Night Library on Saturday, November 1st.
The contest is open to all elementary school students nationwide and children of corresponding ages. Entries will be accepted in two divisions: lower grades (1st-3rd grade) and upper grades (4th-6th grade). A total of 20 children, 10 from each division, who pass the online preliminary round, will participate in the on-site contest on the day of the final, based on a given theme. On-site judging will take place, and awards for the final outstanding works will be presented on the same day.
In the final round, awards will be given by division: one "Boy Mok Il-sin Award," three "Little Star Awards," three "Full Moon Awards," and three "Crescent Moon Awards." Prizes worth up to 1 million KRW will be awarded for each prize category. The winning works are scheduled to be exhibited in Bucheon City libraries. All expenses for prizes, judging fees, and other costs for this project are fully supported by the Mok Il-sin Cultural Foundation (Chairman Yang Jae-su) to discover "Boy Mok Il-sin."
Preliminary entries for the literary contest will be accepted via email (bclibstar00@gmail.com) from Tuesday, July 15th, to Friday, August 29th. Each person can submit up to three creative poems. Guidelines and application forms can be downloaded from the websites of Bucheon City Hall (www.bucheon.go.kr), the Mok Il-sin Cultural Foundation (www.mokilsin.org), and Bucheon City Libraries (www.bcl.go.kr).
