Province operates pre/post-opening inspections and safety management measures… intensive marine waste cleanup activities

Chungcheongnam-do announced on the 4th that it will fully implement its safety management and marine waste disposal measures, established to create a safe and pleasant environment for the beaches opening in July.

According to the province, 26 beaches, including Daecheon in Boryeong, Nanjido and Waemok Village in Dangjin, Chunjangdae in Seocheon, and Mallipo in Taean, will all open simultaneously on July 5th, with Muchangpo in Boryeong opening on July 12th.

Last year, the number of beach visitors in the province was approximately 8.3 million, a 4.1% increase compared to 2023. This year, with the "2025-2026 Chungnam Visit Year," a significant increase in visitors is expected.

Accordingly, the province will thoroughly inspect sites through joint provincial and municipal pre-inspections starting this month to ensure thorough preparation for the safety and convenience of domestic and international visitors.

During the beach opening period, 1.16 billion won will be invested to deploy approximately 380 safety management personnel, and a safety management system, including radiation checks, will be maintained at all times.

Additionally, 920 million won will be invested to secure 139 rescue equipment units in total, including jet skis and trailers, and to expand facilities such as watchtowers.

Furthermore, educational and promotional activities to improve awareness of safety accidents will be carried out, including marine safety education for 1,200 teenagers and safety campaigns with municipal and coast guard related agencies from June to September.

The province aims to achieve zero fatalities this year by pursuing seamless safety management between provincial and municipal organizations during the summer opening period and special countermeasure (peak season) periods.

Moreover, measures have been prepared for the collection and disposal of marine waste, which rapidly increases during heavy summer rains and the peak vacation season.

In preparation for heavy rainfall, a cleanup week will be operated every third week of the month, and facilities designed to prevent land-based waste from entering the ocean will be pre-inspected.

Starting in July, during the intensive collection period, approximately 150 marine waste collection personnel will be deployed and operated, and 9.2 billion won will be invested for the swift disposal of accumulated marine waste.

Jo Jin-bae, head of the provincial maritime policy division, stated, "To ensure the successful operation of the Chungnam Visit Year, we will be even more thorough in preparing for various safety accidents and environmental cleanups this year." He added, "We will do our best to ensure that everyone can safely and cleanly use the beaches and coastlines."
