The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yu In-chon) will support the establishment of a library for children and adolescents in Mongolia as part of its Official Development Assistance (ODA) project. To this end, a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an annex will be held at the Ulaanbaatar Central Library in Mongolia on the morning of March 26th.
The event will be attended by Song Yun-seok, Director General of Regional Culture Policy Bureau of the MCST, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia Choi Jin-won, Nomin, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Mongolia, Nyambaatar, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, and others to celebrate the groundbreaking of the annex.
Established in 1980, the Ulaanbaatar Central Library has provided knowledge and information to many citizens. However, it is mainly used by adults, and the facilities are outdated. Accordingly, a new annex mainly for children and adolescents will be built with the goal of opening in 2026. The annex will be a four-story building with a total floor area of 2,300㎡, designed with eco-friendly and barrier-free features to ensure convenient use for all age groups. It will include various spaces such as an infant and children's room, a youth materials room, a digital resources room, and a Korean materials room, and will also be provided with books and equipment.
The MCST will also promote invitation training and expert dispatch education programs for Mongolian library managers and practitioners to improve the quality of library services and strengthen cooperation between library experts from both countries.
