The Overseas Koreans Agency and the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea (KPIPA) are supplying over 7,000 excellent Korean books to 70 Korean schools worldwide.

The Overseas Koreans Agency announced on the 2nd that it is cooperating with KPIPA to support excellent Korean books, centered on literature-sharing books, to Korean schools around the world this year.

This project was prepared to support books and educational materials in the fields of the Korean language, history, and culture, reflecting the continuous requests from overseas Korean schools and the overseas Korean community.

The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Overseas Koreans Agency on this day and agreed to cooperate to spread a reading culture in the overseas Korean community and educate the next generation of overseas Koreans in the Korean language and culture.

The Overseas Koreans Agency will identify eligible Korean schools and survey demand, while KPIPA will select excellent Korean books centered on literature-sharing books using its own budget and ship them directly to the local sites.

This year, over 7,000 excellent Korean books, including children's and adolescent books, novels, and essays, will be supported to 70 Korean schools worldwide. The first support regions are Europe and the Russia-CIS region, and other regions will be supported sequentially afterward.

The two organizations plan to complete book selection and demand surveys by early October, and then sequentially deliver the books to Korean schools in each region starting in late October. Taking this agreement as an opportunity, they plan to continuously expand the target and scale of support in the future.

Lee Kyung-hoon, Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency, said, "This project will be of practical help to Korean schools that have experienced difficulties in securing Korean books due to budget shortages," adding, "We will expand support so that the next generation of overseas Koreans can naturally encounter our literature and culture through excellent Korean books and foster their identity and pride."
