The U.S. Treasury Department is embroiled in a legal controversy over the proposed issuance of a $1 commemorative coin featuring the face of President Donald Trump. The core of this debate transcends simple design issues. The image and inscription on the coin serve as an ironic testament to the fact that Trump's actions are far removed from the criteria for a Nobel Peace Prize.

The draft design for the commemorative coin, unveiled by Federal Treasurer Brandon Beach under the guise of celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary, prominently features Trump's image. The obverse side includes his profile along with phrases symbolizing the nation's founding ideals ('IN GOD WE TRUST', 'LIBERTY'). However, the reverse design presents a distinctly different context. Against a backdrop of a waving American flag, it depicts Trump with a raised fist, accompanied by the inscription: "Fight, Fight, Fight." This image is said to capture the moment he shouted this slogan immediately after a shooting incident during his campaign rally, delivering a blatant message of struggle and incitement.

This specific detail is the most significant reason that fundamentally disqualifies Trump from Nobel Peace Prize consideration. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to those who have contributed to the 'fraternity between nations,' the 'abolition or reduction of standing armies,' and the 'holding and promotion of peace congresses.' The rallying cry "Fight" inscribed on the coin's reverse stands in direct opposition to the promotion of peace. It carries the nuance of fostering division and confrontation, and even inciting violence, aligning with the extreme political rhetoric he displayed throughout his term.

Furthermore, the very legality of the commemorative coin symbolizes Trump's disregard for statutes and tradition. The law passed by the U.S. Congress explicitly stipulates that the reverse side of the nation's 250th-anniversary commemorative coin may not include the portrait of a living person. The United States has maintained a long-standing tradition of featuring only deceased individuals on currency to avoid the appearance of a monarchy. The attempt to engrave Trump's portrait on the coin is thus viewed as an act that undermines these basic principles of democracy and tradition. Peace can only be established upon the foundation of the rule of law and democratic order. The attempt to idolize his image, even at the cost of sparking legal controversy, fundamentally clashes with the spirit of the Nobel Peace Prize, which is to uphold peace and elevate democracy.

While it is true that President Trump was once mentioned as a Nobel Peace Prize candidate based on some of his diplomatic achievements, the coin controversy clearly demonstrates that his political actions and philosophy are inseparable from the image of division, struggle, and the destruction of tradition. The act of engraving a slogan of struggle onto a national symbol provides an overwhelming reason why he cannot be crowned with the laurel of peace.
