The 2026 Korea-U.S. Public Diplomacy Forum was held on Thursday, the 10th, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Under the theme "The New International Order and the Global South: Expanding Horizons of ROK-U.S. Strategic Cooperation," the forum was co-hosted by Korea University’s Institute for Spanish and Latin American Studies, Georgetown University’s Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), and the Global Americas Initiative (GAI), with sponsorship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Participants discussed the changing political, economic, and security environments of the Global South, as well as potential areas for public diplomacy cooperation between South Korea and the United States targeting the region.

In particular, they shared an understanding of the importance of the Global South, exchanged views on enhancing mutual understanding with the region through public diplomacy, and discussed ways to expand future cooperation.

In his congratulatory remarks, Yoon Joo-seok, Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States, evaluated the Global South as an important region with high potential in population, economic scale, critical minerals, and resources. He expressed hope that, taking this forum as an opportunity, South Korea and the U.S. would strengthen cooperation with Global South nations in the field of public diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to continue discovering public diplomacy events spanning various regions and fields to expand communication and cooperation with the international community.
