Asuncion, Paraguay – Paraguay's Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic) recently convened a public forum to evaluate the environmental and social ramifications of its ambitious Digital District Project. The event, held at the Asuncion Port Cultural Center auditorium, drew a diverse crowd of approximately 40 participants, including innovation ecosystem representatives, environmental advocates, and concerned citizens. Additionally, the forum was broadcast live via Mitic's Facebook page, extending its reach to a wider online audience.
Klaus Pistilli, Vice Minister of Mitic, delivered the opening address, underscoring the significance of sustainable development and ecological harmony. "The Digital District is an investment in the future, aiming to position Paraguay as a leader in technological innovation. However, we are committed to meticulously assessing the environmental and social impact at every phase of the project," Pistilli stated.
Cynthia Paciullo, General Director of Production Innovation and Digital Economy at Mitic, highlighted the project's potential to establish Paraguay as a regional technology hub. "Beyond infrastructure, we aim to cultivate an ecosystem that fosters collaboration and growth. We are actively seeking input from all channels to ensure the project's success," Paciullo emphasized.
The forum provided a platform for the detailed disclosure of documents pertaining to the project's environmental and social impact analysis. Participants engaged in robust discussions on critical aspects such as sustainability, resource efficiency, and strategies to mitigate potential adverse effects. Moreover, attendees had the opportunity to pose questions and receive clarifications from Mitic officials.
The Digital District is envisioned as a technology innovation hub that facilitates collaboration among startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), government agencies, and universities. The Taiwan Paraguay Polytechnic University (UPTP) will serve as a pivotal partner, contributing its expertise in technology and innovation. This initiative aligns with the Paraguayan government's vision to bolster the digital ecosystem and generate new avenues for development. The active participation of diverse stakeholders in the public forum underscores the importance of inclusive engagement in the project's design process.
Mitic is committed to fostering ongoing dialogue and participation to ensure that the Digital District Project yields positive outcomes for Paraguayan society. Feedback and suggestions can be submitted via email to distritodigital@mitic.gov.py, enabling the project's optimization before its final implementation.
