Chungcheongnam-do has partnered with 51 organizations to promote the RE100 campaign, a global initiative aimed at transitioning businesses to 100% renewable energy. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed at the provincial office on the 26th, outlining plans to support local businesses in achieving their RE100 goals through renewable energy expansion projects.

The MOU brings together the province, the provincial council, 15 cities and counties, public institutions, power generation companies, energy firms, civic groups, and business associations. The collective effort aims to achieve carbon neutrality by promoting the RE100 initiative within the province.

Key aspects of the agreement:

Expansion of Renewable Energy Facilities: In response to the increasing electricity demand driven by industrial restructuring, the province plans to expand its renewable energy capacity. The goal is to increase the proportion of renewable energy in industrial electricity consumption to 90% by 2035.
RE100 Implementation in Industrial Complexes: Newly established industrial complexes will incorporate RE100 plans from the outset. Existing complexes will also be retrofitted with solar power facilities, utilizing factory rooftops and parking lot spaces, starting with the Cheonan Smart Green Industrial Complex selected for a pilot project last year.
Utilization of Public Spaces: Public spaces such as parking lots and traditional markets will be utilized for solar power generation. Existing support programs for integrated energy projects and housing will also be expanded.
Offshore Wind Power Development: Offshore wind power generation projects are underway off the coast of Boryeong and Taean. Clean hydrogen power generation will be promoted in Seosan and Dangjin, along with the development of hydrogen cities.
Linkage with Smart Livestock Complexes: Environmentally friendly bio-power generation and tidal power generation will be pursued in conjunction with the development of smart livestock complexes.

Roles of Participating Organizations:

Chungcheongnam-do: Administrative support for renewable energy deployment, including permits and project development.
Provincial Council: Policy support for efficient renewable energy dissemination.
Cities and Counties: Administrative support for renewable energy permits and business participation, as well as the provision of public spaces.
Chungnam Techno Park, etc.: Promotion and support for renewable energy policies and installations.
Power Generation and Energy Companies: Installation of renewable energy facilities and development of business models for companies in industrial and agricultural complexes.
Business Associations: Promotion of policies and encouragement of participation from small and medium-sized enterprises.
Governor Kim Tae-heum stated, "Chungcheongnam-do is leading the nation in achieving carbon neutrality by 2045, ahead of the government's target. We will rapidly expand and disseminate renewable energy to meet the growing electricity demand and achieve carbon neutrality."
