Hyundai Motor Group has once again solidified its commitment to safety, securing the highest number of vehicles with top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The latest recognition comes with the Kia K4 2025 model earning the prestigious Top Safety Pick (TSP) award.
The Kia K4, a compact sedan popular in the North American market, has been on a roll. Following its nomination as a finalist for the 2025 North American Car of the Year, the TSP award further underscores its exceptional value and safety features.
With the addition of the K4, Hyundai Motor Group now boasts a total of 22 vehicles that have achieved either the Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) or TSP rating in 2024. This impressive tally includes 9 Hyundai models, 8 Genesis models, and 5 Kia models, surpassing all other global automakers. Toyota follows closely with 18 vehicles, while Honda rounds out the top three with 11.
IIHS Tightens Safety Standards
To achieve these accolades, vehicles must undergo rigorous testing by IIHS, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the number of deaths, injuries, and property damage from motor vehicle crashes. For 2024, IIHS has implemented more stringent criteria, particularly in the areas of rear-seat passenger protection and pedestrian crash prevention.
To earn the TSP+ rating, a vehicle must achieve a "good" rating in all six crashworthiness assessments: driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, 1 side, roof strength, and head restraints. 2 Additionally, it must have a standard advanced front crash prevention system that earns an advanced or superior rating in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
