Asunción, Paraguay  – A Paranair aircraft carrying 28 passengers en route from Jujuy, Argentina, to Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Luque was forced to make an emergency landing in the northern city of Pedro Juan Caballero due to unexpected and severe weather conditions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers and crew.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a powerful storm, characterized by heavy rain and strong winds, swept through several regions of Paraguay, including the Central Department, on Sunday afternoon. Faced with these hazardous conditions, the pilot of Paranair flight AZP871 made the decision to divert the aircraft to Pedro Juan Caballero Airport, prioritizing the safety and well-being of everyone on board over attempting a landing at the intended destination.

Rubén Aguilar, the airport director of the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC), confirmed the incident in a press interview. "The aircraft was carrying 28 passengers, and all of them landed safely," Aguilar stated. He further explained, "Due to the deteriorating weather conditions, landing at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport was deemed impossible, and the pilot made a safe landing at Pedro Juan Caballero Airport."

Following the emergency landing, the Paranair aircraft was grounded at Pedro Juan Caballero Airport due to a shortage of fuel. In response, Paranair promptly dispatched a replacement aircraft from Silvio Pettirossi International Airport to Pedro Juan Caballero to transport the stranded passengers to their original destination.

The unforeseen emergency landing and the subsequent indefinite waiting period understandably caused anxiety and unease among some passengers. Passenger-recorded videos from the scene captured the pilot calmly addressing the passengers, urging them to "focus on the positive aspect of having landed safely." While some passengers initially expressed a desire to travel to Asunción by road, they were eventually persuaded by the airline to await the arrival of the replacement aircraft.

After a prolonged wait, the relief aircraft finally arrived at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport at approximately 8:20 PM local time on Sunday evening, allowing the passengers to safely reach their intended destination.

This incident occurs as Paranair has been actively expanding its presence in the South American region, having recently launched a new route connecting Asunción with Salta, Argentina, on February 12th.
