Seoul, South Korea – As Samsung's latest mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A16, hits the South Korean market, mobile carriers are offering significant subsidies to attract customers. Among the three major carriers, LG Uplus is providing the highest subsidies, up to 239,000 won.
According to industry sources on November 29th, the subsidies for the Galaxy A16 vary across carriers, ranging from 70,000 to 239,000 won. LG Uplus is offering the most generous subsidies, ranging from 151,000 to 239,000 won. SK Telecom is offering subsidies between 88,000 and 130,000 won, while KT's subsidies range from 70,000 to 575,000 won.
To receive the maximum subsidy, customers must subscribe to plans with 100,000 won or more in monthly fees. With additional subsidies (up to 15% of the base subsidy), LG Uplus customers can receive a total subsidy of up to 274,850 won.
The Galaxy A16 comes with 128GB of storage and has a retail price of 319,000 won. With the maximum subsidy from LG Uplus, customers can purchase the device for as little as 44,150 won.
Selective Contract vs. Subsidies
While subsidies are attractive, customers may find that choosing a selective contract, which offers a 25% discount on monthly bills for 24 months, is a more cost-effective option in the long run. For example, customers subscribing to the highest-tier plans with SK Telecom can receive a discount of 606,000 won through the selective contract, compared to the maximum subsidy. Similarly, KT and LG Uplus offer discounts of 534,000 won and 630,000 won, respectively.
