As the relocation of the presidential office nears completion, the official name of the office will revert to the "Blue House" starting December 29th. This marks the official return of the nation's executive center to its historic location after approximately three years in Yongsan.
The Office of the Spokesperson announced on the 24th that "the Phoenix flag currently flying at the Yongsan presidential office will be lowered at midnight on the 29th, and simultaneously, the flag will be hoisted at the Blue House." Since the Phoenix flag symbolizes the head of state and is always displayed at the president’s primary office, this ceremony signifies the official commencement of operations at the Blue House.
In line with the name change, the presidential office decided to reinstate the previous Blue House emblem. The new branding will be sequentially applied to the official website, stationery, installations, and staff business cards. President Lee Jae-myung is expected to preside over meetings at the Blue House starting on the 29th.
The Presidential Secretariat is currently in the process of moving each department, with plans to complete the relocation within this week. However, to ensure a seamless transition, some staff members will reportedly work between Yongsan and the Blue House for a transitional period.
Meanwhile, a diplomatic gesture highlighting the strength of the ROK-U.S. alliance was revealed. Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik announced on Facebook that U.S. President Donald Trump gifted President Lee a "Golden Key to the White House." Kang stated, "The last of the five specially crafted golden keys was sent to our President as a token of gratitude for the hospitality during President Trump’s visit in October," adding that the gift serves as a powerful symbol of the steadfast alliance between the two nations.
