South Korea’s beer consumption rose slightly last year, securing the 15th spot globally in terms of total volume. According to the "2024 Global Beer Consumption Report" released by Kirin Holdings on the 24th, South Korea consumed a total of 2.307 million kiloliters (kl) of beer last year, marking a 0.7% increase from the previous year.
On an individual level, the average South Korean adult consumed 44.6 liters of beer annually. When converted into standard 633ml bottles, this equates to approximately 70.5 bottles, an increase of 0.6 bottles compared to the prior year. Despite the high total volume ranking, South Korea placed 48th in per capita consumption.
On the global stage, China maintained its position as the world's largest beer market for the 22nd consecutive year, with a total consumption of 40.534 million kl. The United States (22.34 million kl) and Brazil (15.304 million kl) followed in second and third place, respectively, while Japan ranked 11th. In terms of per capita consumption, the Czech Republic remained the undisputed leader for the 32nd year in a row, with an average of 148.8 liters per person.
The world’s total beer consumption reached 194.12 million kl last year, a 0.5% year-on-year increase. Analysts at Kirin Holdings attributed this growth primarily to rising demand in markets such as India, Russia, and Thailand. The report was compiled based on data from international beer associations and global statistical agencies.
