Abidjan, Ivory Coast – In a remarkable alignment of spiritual calendars, the Christian season of Lent once again coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, prompting religious leaders in Ivory Coast to call for heightened unity and prayer. This unique period is seen as a divine opportunity to foster peace, particularly with the nation's presidential election on the horizon.

Imam Ibrahim Koné, a member of the National Forum of Religious Confessions of Ivory Coast, has described the concurrent observance as "a grace from God." With Lent beginning on March 5th (Ash Wednesday) and concluding on April 20th (Easter), and Ramadan ending on March 30th, 2025, Ivorians are presented with a prolonged period of shared spiritual reflection.

Recognizing Ivory Coast's diverse religious landscape, Imam Koné is urging Christians and Muslims to join in prayer for a peaceful presidential election, scheduled for October 25th, 2025. "God grants us these favorable times to pray together for peace in our country," he stated. He also added "In our churches, temples, and mosques, we must pray that God converts the hearts of politicians, for harmony between them and the population, for the good of Ivorians."

Beyond the political context, Imam Koné emphasizes the spiritual significance of both Lent and Ramadan, viewing them as "schools of training." These periods of prayer offer opportunities for deepening faith, practicing self-denial, seeking forgiveness, engaging in acts of sharing, and purifying the soul. He expressed hope that these holy months would strengthen reconciliation, love, unity, and social cohesion among all Ivorians, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

Imam Kone also made a special appeal to all of the political figures involved in the upcoming election. He asked that they all act with justice, and non-violence, so that the nation of Ivory Coast will continue to be a haven of peace.
