The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) has officially opened its new campus at the heart of the Punggol Digital District (PDD), generating high expectations among students. The campus, which opened on September 16, brings together departments that were previously scattered across six locations. It aims to create a vibrant learning environment where academia, industry, and the community can come together. Students have expressed their satisfaction with the new space, with some saying, "It finally feels like we're experiencing university life."
Maximizing Learning Efficiency with State-of-the-Art Facilities
The new campus has significantly expanded its state-of-the-art facilities to enhance students' practical learning experiences. In particular, lab space has been increased by 200%, giving students more opportunities for hands-on, practical learning in addition to theoretical studies. Ian Lim, a student majoring in Mechatronics Systems, said, "The upgraded facilities allow me to quickly experiment with various ideas and gain practical experience. It shows how much effort SIT is putting into preparing students for their future."
Collaboration and Sustainability as Core Values
SIT's new Punggol campus is built on the core values of "collaboration, smart, and sustainability." The 2-kilometer "Collaboration Loop" connects the Campus Boulevard with companies in the JTC Business Park, helping students engage with external industries and explore real-world internship opportunities. Elly Sabrina Binte Suhaimi, a student of Communication and Digital Media, stated, "My professors actively encouraged networking with companies, which has been a great help in securing internship opportunities."
The campus also shows a strong commitment to sustainability, with more than 20,000 sensors installed to optimize energy use and the introduction of a green air-conditioning system called "Passive Displacement Ventilation." This demonstrates SIT's dedication to using the campus as a "Living Lab," not just a building.
Strengthening Students' "Campus Identity"
With the previously dispersed campuses now united, a stronger sense of community and campus identity is expected to develop among students. Ian Lim remarked, "Now that all students from various campuses are at Punggol, university life feels much more vibrant. It finally feels like I've come to a real university."
The new campus is divided into two sections, the "Campus Heart" and the "Campus Court," and is located within the Punggol Digital District, which is set to become Singapore's future digital hub. It is expected to provide students with rich opportunities for learning and growth.
