Seoul, South Korea – The Italian Embassy in Seoul, the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, and the Korea Foundation jointly present "Mosaic: A Timeless Italian Art Code," a special exhibition commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Italy. The exhibition will be held at the KF Gallery in Jung-gu, Seoul, from November 15, 2024, to February 28, 2025.
Curated by Magister Art, a renowned immersive multimedia exhibition company, and supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this exhibition showcases the rich history of Italian mosaic art through the lens of cutting-edge technology. Visitors will embark on a journey through time, exploring the evolution of mosaic art from ancient Rome to the present day.
The exhibition features eight sections, each dedicated to a different city or region in Italy, including Rome, Pompeii, Aquileia, Ravenna, Palermo, Monreale, Piazza Armerina, and Baia. By connecting these cities across a vast geographical expanse, the exhibition highlights the diversity and regional characteristics of Italian mosaic art.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the Rome and Pompeii section, which showcases ancient Roman mosaics that offer a glimpse into daily life and artistic sensibilities of the time. The Ravenna section features stunning Byzantine mosaics, demonstrating the fusion of Eastern and Western artistic influences.
The exhibition also includes works from the Farnesina Collection, a collection of 20th and 21st-century Italian art belonging to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
This exhibition is a first for East Asia, following successful runs in Chile, Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, Brazil, the United States, and Indonesia. It offers a unique opportunity for Korean audiences to appreciate the beauty and complexity of Italian mosaic art.
