Oilfield services company NOV has secured a contract to provide a mooring solution for Argentina's first-ever floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project, located offshore in the San Matías Gulf.

The project involves the relocation of the FLNG vessel 'Hilli Episeyo', which was previously in operation offshore Cameroon. The vessel is expected to process approximately 2.4 million tons of LNG per year. Through this contract, NOV will supply its APL submerged swivel and yoke (SSY) system to ensure safe and uninterrupted gas transfer via a subsea pipeline. This system eliminates the need for a separate jetty, which helps reduce the topside structure and overall project complexity.

An NOV representative stated, "We are proud to supply our SSY for Argentina's first FLNG project. Together with Southern Energy SA, we are setting an efficient standard for Argentina's natural gas exports."

NOV explained that the compact SSY is based on its existing turret and swivel technology and that its integrated design makes it ideal for redeployment or remote FLNG developments. The recycling of the FLNG vessel is also expected to shorten the project timeline and reduce embodied carbon emissions compared to introducing new equipment.

The project is led by Southern Energy SA, which was established for the purpose of exporting Argentina's LNG. Other participants include Pan American Energy, Pampa Energía, Harbour Energy, YPF, and Golar LNG. Golar LNG recently selected Seatrium to handle the upgrade work on the vessel ahead of its 20-year redeployment. With a target start date of 2027, the vessel will be responsible for liquefying gas produced from the Vaca Muerta shale formation located in Neuquén province.
