Seoul, South Korea – South Korea's major telecommunications companies, SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+, are expanding their support for the families of the victims of the recent Jeju Air plane crash in Muan, South Korea. In addition to enhancing network services at Muan Airport and the joint memorial altar, the companies are waiving mobile data charges for victims and providing free internet and IPTV services to their families.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has confirmed that, as of January 3, the telecommunications companies have begun the process of exempting mobile data charges for the victims of the Jeju Air crash.
Furthermore, the three companies have decided to waive termination fees for the victims and offer a two-month exemption on internet and IPTV charges for the victims' households.
Prior to these measures, the telecommunications companies and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) had already taken steps to bolster network capacity at Muan Airport and the joint memorial altar. This included deploying five mobile base stations, dispatching specialized personnel, and installing 32 additional communication devices to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics, a major smartphone manufacturer, has been providing free repair services for the mobile phones, tablets, and laptops of victims and their families at its service centers nationwide since December 30, the day after the accident occurred.
These combined efforts by South Korea's telecommunications industry and electronics giant demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the victims and their families during this difficult time.
