ASUNCION – The Paraguayan Ministry of Public Health has announced the commencement of a major modernization project for the Manuel Giani Trauma Hospital, which has been suffering from chronic deterioration. Approximately ₲30 billion Guaraníes (approximately 5.4 billion Korean Won) will be invested. This project, supported by Itaipu Binacional, is set to begin next week and will continue for 18 months.

For decades, the Trauma Hospital has served as the backbone of emergency medical care in Paraguay, proving its importance by caring for countless patients day and night. However, 25 years have passed since it transitioned from being the 'First Aid Station' and 'Emergency Medical Center' to its current name, leaving clear signs of aging in various sections of the building. Hospital officials emphasized the significance of this construction, stating it is "an investment to provide better comfort for patients and staff using the hospital."

The Ministry of Public Health stated that this modernization work will be carried out in phases to minimize the disruption of essential hospital services. Phase 1 of the construction will focus on eight key areas, including: △general warehouses, △rooftop waterproofing, △renovation of the 6th floor, △the old emergency room area, △Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), △outpatient operating rooms, △hospital exterior walls, and △patient waiting areas.

Furthermore, this project also includes plans to expand and modernize core support areas of the hospital, such as: △physical therapy rooms, △electronic medical equipment rooms, △kitchen and dining areas, △laundry rooms, and △maintenance and general service areas. This is expected to significantly contribute to the overall improvement of hospital functions and enhance convenience for both patients and medical staff.

This modernization project, funded by Itaipu Binacional, will be a significant milestone in improving Paraguay's public health infrastructure. Upon the completion of the 18-month construction, the Trauma Hospital is projected to be equipped with more modern and efficient facilities, enabling it to provide a higher level of medical service to the Paraguayan people.
